How to choose the right company to work for?

Why do you want to join our company? – This is a common question asked by most #Interviewers during #interviews.

If you thought interviews were all about answering questions and proving your skills, then you are wrong.

As we mentioned in our previous blog, interviews are just meetings with objectives in which both parties assess the opposite party to decide whether they are a good fit or not.

Of course, as a candidate you have to impress with your #technical and #softskills during the interview, but it’s also equally important to impress the Interviewer with your knowledge about their company.

If we truly love someone, we follow that person on all social media accounts and collect as much information as possible about him/her through other sources such as friends, etc.

The same applies to candidates who want to impress their interviewers.

Yes, you have to do a lot of #backgroundresearch about the company where you’ll be spending most of your time in a day if you get selected and choose to join there.

Though you research your loved one or your future employer to impress them with the facts about them, the primary reason behind doing this research is to make informed decisions about whether or not to choose that particular person or that particular company as your life partner or your future employer.

If we make the wrong decision, then we’ll regret it forever as the old saying goes “Marry in haste, repent at leisure”

So in this blog, we will talk about how to thoroughly research any company before applying for a job or before attending its interview.

First of all, you have to research the company by following all its social media accounts such as #Facebook, #LinkedIn, #Instagram, #Twitter, etc., and see what kind of posts they post.

From their posts you can understand the following:

  1. the #values the company has,

  2. the importance they give their #employees and how #happy their employees are,

  3. the #rewardsandrecognition their employees get,

  4. the #products or #services they offer, etc.

This understanding is not generally achieved in a day.

This is a slow process.

So, you can make it a habit to follow all those prospective companies where you like to work and observe them silently.

Second, if you want to make quick decisions, go to their #GoogleBusinessProfile and read their reviews.

Don’t just read the #positive or #negative #reviews, read both of them, but don’t believe all the reviews as there could be a lot of fake reviews.

So, it’s always good to make your decisions based on the percentage of negative reviews compared to positive reviews.

For example, if the negative reviews are very few and negligible, you can ignore them, or else if there are more negative reviews, especially with the same kind of issue being addressed again and again then it should be a #RedAlert.

There’s no statistically correct figure, but you can make your decisions based on your gut instincts.

But, always remember any business can have both positives and negatives, but you need to check if there’s anything which doesn’t fit your personality, character, values or working style.

Apart from the reviews, don’t forget to see the #photos in the Google Business Profile too.

Third, you can go to their website and get a glimpse of what kind of company they are and what kind of business activities they do and what kind of culture they portray.

The website will also have photos of their infrastructure and their employees which is an authentic source as they can be uploaded only by the company admin, unlike Google Business Profile which can have images uploaded from anyone.

Fourth, you can ask any reliable person in your life about the company and its pros and cons; don’t just ask anyone, ask only reliable people in your life.

If you can reach their current and previous employees they also could be a great source for getting authentic information about the company.

While researching your potential company on social media or Google Business Profile or website, or through references, most candidates forget to note what kind of #industry is it and if you are comfortable working in it.

For example, you may not like to work in the #Retail, #Healthcare or #Service industries.

So, don’t forget to ask or check what kind of industry the company comes under and if it’s something you enjoy working at.

With this information, we believe you could fine-tune your research skills and make the right decision about choosing which company you want to join.

All the best in your job search.

Please do share it with your friends and family.
